FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between EFAW and FAW?
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a one-day qualification suitable for lower-risk workplaces. First Aid at Work (FAW) is a 3-day course for higher-risk environments. For most construction and maintenance settings where one or two first aiders are required, EFAW is the appropriate level. We can advise which is right for your workplace — just call us.
How many first aiders do I need on a construction site?
The HSE requires employers to carry out a first aid needs assessment to determine the number of first aiders required. For sites of 5–50 people in a low-risk environment, at least one first aider is typically required. Higher-risk environments or larger sites generally require more. Contact us if you'd like advice on your specific site requirements.
Can you train our whole team on-site?
Yes — on-site EFAW training is very popular. We can come to your premises with our qualified instructor and all necessary training equipment. You'll need a suitable room and an area for practical exercises. This is cost-effective for groups and eliminates travel time for your team. Contact us for a quote.
When does the certificate expire?
Your EFAW certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. The HSE recommends refresher training before expiry. We'll remind you when your certificate is approaching renewal if you register with us at the time of booking.
Do delegates need to bring anything?
Wear comfortable clothing you're able to kneel and move in — you'll be on the floor for CPR practice. Bring photo ID. Refreshments are provided; please bring lunch or use nearby facilities. No PPE or special equipment is required for this course.
